From Russia, with Love
Another James Bond show? Think Again! This show idea was inspired by our arrangers' personal passion for Shostakovich and other Russian orchestral literature. The show title became our catalyst to creatively use the James Bond movie motifs and a variety of styles to bring to you this highly unique and original classical show. From the opening bars of Festive Overture heard in the distance, this show is undeniably Russian. But the smooth sounds of the 007 Theme creep in, and before long you are continuously walking the line between classical, James Bond, or a mix of the two! The opening production is drawn mostly from Shostakovich's dramatic Symphony No. 10, with a few twists of course. The middle portion follows with more dark echoes of the Bond Theme, but moves seamlessly into a lush bossa nova treatment of Borodin's Polovstian Dance. Finishing the show is a fast-paced jazzy version of Russian Sailor's Dance, with a recap that brings all the Russian and 007 motifs back together in the same innovative way that the show began. Do James Bond like no one else will be this season with our program, "From Russia, with Love".
